Stretch and talk to them about the importance of hip mobility
Straight in to blocking, philosophy is to be soft and quick
3 balls in front of the catchers, hands on the ground in mountain climber position, fall forward in blocking position to each ball.
Quickness with dry blocking, point to the ball and have them get in blocking position to that location, then they pop back up into ready position in the middle.
Finish off the time with live blocks off of the machine, straight on blocks and fairly soft just to get the feel of a live block.
Receiving, philosophy is to just catch and stick the pitch, no pulling or “framing”
No glove, hand eye receiving drill with partners to get them moving and soft with their hands.
Shoot balls out of the machine middle, inside, outside and work on strong wrists and sticking the ball where it is thrown.
Warm up arms for throwdowns
Throwdowns and footwork, philosophy is to make transfer high and at midway point from the shoulder to where you catch it.
Quickly cover footwork, right foot towards second base and not replacing the left foot. Partners throw each other the ball and jab with right foot practicing glove transfer as well.
Do 2 sets of 5 throws throwdowns with someone 10-15ft behind second base. Then move in to actual second base for 2 sets of 5 throws to feel the difference in pull down.
